A Ukrainian Church far away from Ukraine

This beautiful Ukrainian church of St Mary is in the town of Niagara Falls in Canada. Built in 1988, it resembles many churches in the Ukrainian Carpathian Mountains. Similar wooden churches can be found today in the Lemkivschyna area stretching from Sambir almost as far as the mountains south of Krakow in Poland.

Today many descendents of the Lemkos live in the West and follow traditions of their county of origin. Many of them observe religious holidays according to the Gregorian Calendar and support churches and cultural centers far away from the home land of their ancestors.
