Carpathian Mountain Walking Tours
Choose from a variety of exciting tours to the Ukrainian Carpathian Mountains from the list below, ranging from one to several days. These walks can be tailored to a person’s interest in the mountains and overall fitness. One-day hikes and walks of 2 to 3 and more days can be arranged. Normally accommodations for longer walks will be available in tents or shelters on mountain meadows, in rural homestays, at mountain hostels or hotels. On the hiking trips participants are expected to carry their backpacks and provisions. At your choice, the English-speaking guide/driver will accompany you on the walking tour pointing out places of interest and helping in orientation. Tents, sleeping bags, mats and backpack can be provided. You would need to be physically fit to enjoy our hiking tours.

Vysoky Verkh Mountain - hiking in Beskydy
Duration: 10 hoursDifficulty: Moderate
Total walking distance - 16 km. Vertical rise - 700 m. Top elevation - 1245 m (4084 feet). Most of the trail leads through open areas offering good views of the surrounding mountains and lower-lying villages. Near the top the trek passes Pysana Krynytsia natural spring. Vysoky Verkh is near the rapidly developing skiing resorts Slavsko and Volosianka. New ski lifts were built on Mountain Zvorets - the summit connected to Vysoky Verkh with a trek. Vysoky Verkh can be combined with the Parashka Mountain trail for a 2-day hike.

Parashka Mountain - hiking in Beskydy
Duration: 10 hoursDifficulty: Challenging
Total walking distance - 20 km. Vertical rise - 800 m. Top elevation - 1268 m (4160 feet). Two thirds of the trail leads through the forest with steep climbs. The final part is on the open ridge and is more level. Parashka is in the Skolivsky Beskydy National Park. Its proximity to Lviv makes Parashka a popular trail among hikers. It is also one of the highest peaks of Beskydy. Parashka can be combined with the Vysoky Verkh trail for a 2-day hike.

Hrofa Mountain - hiking in Horhany
Duration: 14 hoursDifficulty: Moderate
Total walking distance - 15 km. Vertical rise - 1030 m. Top elevation - 1752 m (5748 feet). From the start the trek is on a dirt road following abandoned narrow-gauge train tracks. The middle part is along a fast and icy cold Kotelets stream. And the final part is on a steep path and then on boulders before reaching the summit. Hrofa can be combined with other trails in Horhany for a 2 or 3-day tour.

Hoverla Mountain - hiking in Chornohora
Duration: 15 hoursDifficulty: Challenging
Total walking distance - 7 km. Vertical rise - 800 m. Top elevation 2060 m (6759 feet). Hoverla is the highest peak in the Ukrainian Carpathians and a very popular hiking destination. From the base with a hostel-type hotel the trail steeply rises first through the forest and then on alpine meadows above 1400 m. An additional excursion can be made to the Prut River waterfall, one of the Danube tributaries, situated to the south of the main trail. Due to the intensity of the Hoverla hike and long driving distance form Lviv, we also recommend it as a 2-day trip.

Petros Mountain - hiking in Chornohora
Duration: 2 days minimumDifficulty: Challenging
Total walking distance - 22 km. Vertical rise - 1300 m. Top elevation 2020 m (6627 feet). Petros is one of the highest summits of Chornohora. The trail goes thorough the mixture of forests and meadows and crosses a high-altiutude traditional dairy farm on a meadow that can serve as a good camping ground. Sheep can be seen grazing on the slopes of Petros. To heard sheep and as a pastime, shepherds use a wind instrument called sopilka.

Pip Ivan Mountain via Smotrych - hiking in Chornohora
Duration: 2 days minimumDifficulty: Moderate
Total walking distance - 24 km. Vertical rise - 1300 m. Top elevation 2026 m (6627 feet). The trail starts in one of the remotest Hutsul villages of the Ukrainian Carpathian mountains. On a mountain farm along the way to Pip Ivan, hikers can observe the process of making brynza and vurda, types of traditional Hutsul cheese. The trail passes Mountain Smotrych (1901 m), one of the better known Carpathian summits. Pip Ivan Mountain is the site of the ruined Polish observatory situated at the former Polish-Czechoslovakian border. This tour includes an overnight stay in the traditional Hutsul house, included in the price.

From Hoverla to Pip Ivan - hiking in Chornohora
Duration: 3 days minimumDifficulty: Challenging
Total walking distance - 45 km. Vertical rise - 1300 m. Average elevation 2000 m (6562 feet). This is one of the most beautiful areas in the Carpathian Mountains. The trail on top of the Chornohora ridge is almost level and follows through vast open spaces from Hoverla to Pip Ivan passing high altitude lakes Nesamovyte and Brebeneskul. The tour includes one overnight in tents on the ridge, and one night in the rented Hutsul village cottage, included in the price.
