New Monuments in Lviv

The almost real sized bronze figure near the Dominican Church in Lviv attracts tourists touching the bronze nose and holding the raised finger of the statue, which is said to bring good luck. The statue is of Nikifor, a famous primitivist painter of Ukrainian Lemko descent from the town Krynica in Poland. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikifor

Small statues have become popular in Lviv as a refreshing change from the large impersonal monuments of the Soviet days. A small bronze figure of the Good Soldier Schweik enjoying his beer in frond of Hotel Wien in Lviv is a good example of this new art trend in Lviv.
